This is the 1983 Harley Davidson Sportser as it was when I brought it home. It runs and rides okay but it's pretty tough to shift gears. Frankly, I hate the large tank and the mini-ape handlebars. Not a huge fan of the swingarm rear suspension either. I'm pretty sure that's going to be replaced with a weld-on hardtail section.
Goals for this bike so far:
- Go over and assess all systems
- Frame
- Suspension
- Brakes
- Engine
- Transmission
- Repair shifting problems
- Cosmetics
- Change the gas tank
- Change the handlebars
- Install a weld-on tail section
- Powder coat the frame and sheet metal. The color hasn't been chosen yet but I'm leaning toward a metal flake red or back to black.
In the next post, I will drain engine oil, primary oil, remove the primary cover, and more.
